{"id":1933,"date":"2019-05-04T16:05:51","date_gmt":"2019-05-04T16:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/notes.nicedream.net\/?p=1933"},"modified":"2019-05-04T16:05:51","modified_gmt":"2019-05-04T16:05:51","slug":"the-ikea-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nicedream.net\/notes\/the-ikea-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"The IKEA Effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/dash.harvard.edu\/bitstream\/handle\/1\/12136084\/norton%20mochon%20ariely%20third%20round%5b1%5d.pdf?sequence=3&#038;isAllowed=y\">2011 paper in the Journal of Consumer Psychology<\/a> says labor alone can be sufficient to induce greater liking for the fruits of one\u2019s labor:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In four studies in which consumers assembled IKEA boxes, folded origami, and built sets of Legos, we demonstrate and investigate boundary conditions for the IKEA effect \u2013 the increase in valuation of self-made products. Participants saw their amateurish creations as similar in value to experts\u2019 creations, and expected others to share their opinions. We show that labor leads to love only when labor results in successful completion of tasks; when participants built and then destroyed their creations, or failed to complete them, the IKEA effect dissipated.
